Master of Science in Bioinformatics CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: 2018 – 2019

Applications are being invited for a 2 year MSc in Bioinformatics to start in January 2018 in the department of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Malawi. The MSc Bioinformatics programme combines foundational skills in computing, programming, molecular biology, research methods and other natural sciences. The course draws together highly-rated teaching and research expertise from across various African institutions, International Universities and research institutions to equip learners for a successful bioinformatics career in both industry or academia.

It is designed for students from both biological science and computational backgrounds across the African continent and globally. Prior experience with computing is not required to enroll in the programme.

The program will run full time for two years from January 2018 to December 2019. Year one combines bioinformatics theory and application with the computational and modelling skills necessary to undertake more specialist modules to conduct research. Year two covers highly specialized elective modules and a research project offered in the second year. Research is a larger proportion of the course with emphasis on delivering the research training that will be needed to meet the demands of industry and academia

The research project will provide learners with an opportunity to develop their research ideas, knowledge and in-depth skills. Learners will have a one-to-one supervision from experienced members of staff and collaborators from partner universities and research institutions.
