The Malawi Environmental Health Association (MEHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Water and Sanitation (MoWS) is organizing the 2025 International Environmental Health Conference, scheduled to take place from 21–22 August 2025 at the Livingstonia Beach Sunbird Hotel in Salima. The theme is “Uniting Preventive Health Disciplines for Environmental Health Action.” The theme underscores the critical need for cross-sectoral collaboration in addressing both global and local environmental health challenges. It highlights the importance of integrating expertise from various preventive health disciplines, including public health, epidemiology, occupational health, sanitation, and climate science, to develop sustainable solutions that protect and promote human well-being.
The conference will focus on sharing knowledge, best practices, and strategies across five key pillars of environmental health:
a) Strengthening cross-disciplinary collaboration for the prevention and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, with a focus on resilient health systems and environmental determinants.
b) Enhancing access to clean water and sanitation as fundamental pillars of environmental health, promoting disease prevention and public health resilience.
c) Strengthening workplace health and safety by mitigating environmental hazards and fostering healthier occupational settings.
d) Promoting sustainable and health-conscious built environments that enhance human well-being through safe housing, urban planning, and climate-responsive infrastructure.
e) Ensuring food safety and hygiene by implementing environmental health measures to prevent foodborne illnesses and safeguard population health
